Introduction

I found the image at https://stloch.com/barcelona-magazine-spread . I think the designers are Tina and Ryan Essmaker from NOW Magazine. It was published in November 2014.
Analysis
Rule of Thirds

The photographer is following the rule of thirds by placing the object on the right hand side of the photo. The page designer also added text on the lower left side to help balance the photo and the photo is placed on the upper left side of the page to help break up the text below it.

The designer uses at least two different font styles. They use OldStyle for the quote in the middle of the text on the right page and a Sans Serif for the first paragraph. Both of these are used to add contrast from the main body of text.

They also use font colors to add titles and separate different topics and questions throughout the article.

This photo uses the same rule of thirds and line through the middle of the frame to create a border.

This one has the same rule of thirds with my dog but also introduces a tree in the foreground on the left that is similar to the text added in the magazine.

This phot has the same rule of thirds with the dog in the lower right third and the tree in the left third as well as the structure going through the middle
Conclusion
The principles used in this magazine spread help contribute to the overall design by making the photo appealing as well as giving a good spot for the title of the article. The different fonts separate the article into different items for the reader to read. The different font color adds title to each paragraph and shows where the new answer starts.
